Which types of input fields exist and how do I use them correctly? (Step 3)

Learn what you need to consider when configuring input fields.

All Fields

How can special characters be used within the input fields?

➜ Special characters can be displayed in every field within the display label.

➜ For the database and export label, a blank space (" ") and an underscore ("_") are displayed instead.
➜ The following special characters are NOT possible within the answer option values for single-, multiple-choice or dropdown, but can be use within the answer option lables:

".$?&*[ ]/

Short Text

You can enter every kind of character into a short text field. Even though it is called "short" text, there are no limitations of characters.

Example use case:

Long Text

As the layout is more suitable for longer texts, you can use this for extensive descriptions. There is also no character limit.

Rich Text

The Rich Text is not an input field in the common sense because you cannot enter data in it. So these fields are also not shown in the data export (but you can see them in the PDF exports or the annotated PDF). You can use the Rich Text also for links, pictures, different kinds of headers etc.

⭐ Good to know: If you add links, they will also work in a PDF export.

Numbers
  • Size: A maximum of 16 numbers and 8 decimal numbers can be entered into this input field.
  • Decimal numbers: In Climedo, decimal numbers are always separated by a period. If you enter a comma, it will automatically change into a period after saving and refreshing the page.
  • Export: The layout of numbers in an export (Excel, CSV) depends on the individual/local settings – be sure to check in advance!

Slider
  • Default position: You can set where the slider handle should first be positioned.
  • Layout: When using many ticks, values and labels, always check via the preview mode that everything is displayed correctly on the respective devices. You can add up to 100 ticks and labels have a maximum length of 60 characters.
  • Emojis: If you wish to add emojis (such as smileys) to a slider, you have two options: You can either check whether your keyboard allows you to add emojis, or you can use a search engine to find out the standardized codes and add them to the labels.

Date Refer to this article about time zones in Climedo

Partial date

In the partial date field, you can configure accepted date formats. When filling out the field, the user initially sees the most detailed format, but can switch between all selected formats if needed.

⭐ Good to know: The logic for notifications, validations, dependencies, automated queries and filters always accounts for the entire timeframe in which the event could have taken place.

Example: If the partial date is "05/2022" and a dependency is set for "after 15/05/2022", then the dependency would also be triggered for the partial date.

Date and TimeThe user can enter a date and a time.

Single ChoiceThe user can only select one option. The different value options will be shown below one another and can take up a lot of space in your input form. If you wish to add many options, think about using a dropdown instead to save space.
Multiple ChoiceThe user can select multiple options. The different value options will be shown below one another and can take up a lot of space in your input form.

Dropdown

The dropdown lets the user choose a single value from a selection of options. It is more space-saving than a single choice question, as the list of answer options must first be expanded.

⭐ Good to know: For each selection option in multiple choice, single choice and dropdown fields, you can configure a label and a value. The label will be shown to the user and appears in filters, dependency settings etc. The value can be alphanumeric and can be used for smart field calculations.

You can add multiple options with both a label and a value by adding them in the following format: "Label;Value"

In the export, you will be able to choose whether the label, the value or both in the format label(value) are exported.

File upload
  • File size: Even though there is theoretically no limit in file size, you will notice that, the bigger your file, the slower the upload speed. This also depends on your browser. We therefore recommend uploading smaller files (<25MB) to provide a solid uploading time and no "time-out" of your browser.
  • Data type: Here is a list of data types that are allowed to be uploaded: Permitted data types for file upload

⭐ Good to know: If newly created screenshots are to be uploaded into this field, there are differences between the two operating systems Windows and IOS:

  • iOS: Here, you can simply drag and drop the screenshot into the upload field. The image is uploaded without intermediate storage.
  • Windows: Here, you have to save the image briefly on your device in order to upload it either by drag and drop or via the classic selection from the Explorer.

New: With our new "Field formats" feature, you now have the option of customising the input options for number fields, short texts and long texts according to your specific requirements. Workaround

If you wish to use an image for answer choices (e.g. pictorial representation of the body – pain localization) we recommend adding the image as rich text and adding a regular multiple-choice or single-choice field next to this image.
